The Ancient One

It looks at the gang of birds

dancing their perching dance.

Their cacophony- a musical?

Laying stake-the sparrows on the east

And to the west

Himalayan Bulbul, with puffed up chests &  70’s hairdo,

It looks at the resident cat

Tip-toe up, to the disarray of the parents,

Searching amongst its hollows

for warm eggs to breakfast.

After a futile quest,

Stretch its limbs on the wrinkled branch

A consolatory basking in the sun?

It looks at me-pause

The face of a seeker, passing through

In search of enlightenment

Or daily dose of coffee?
